Construction has begun on the Shorsh Bridge, a 48-meter-high structure on the Erbil-Koy Sanjaq dual carriageway that project engineers say will be the highest of its kind in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Project engineer Kaifi Faris told Shafaq News that the bridge is being built at the spillway of Dgala Dam, near Kani Darband village, as part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s strategic road project linking Erbil with Koy Sanjaq.
The bridge will extend for 250 meters, carrying three traffic lanes in each direction. According to Faris, Awan Company, the project contractor, has begun foundation work. The bridge will use a composite construction system, combining reinforced-concrete supports with a steel superstructure.
Faris said work is also advancing on the wider Erbil-Koy Sanjaq dual carriageway, with 30 kilometers of the route graded and 22 kilometers paved with asphalt so far.
