They also agreed to form a joint committee covering energy, agriculture,water, transport, and border crossings &ldquo;to advance cooperation and mutualinterests.&rdquo; </p><p>Last December,a source told Shafaq News that Iraq and Syria reached a preliminary agreementto revive the Kirkuk&ndash;Baniyas oil pipeline, adding that a delegation led byIraq&rsquo;s deputy oil minister, including SOMO Director General Ali Nizar, OilPipelines Company Director General Ali Abdul Karim, and other senior officials,visited Damascus to discuss mechanisms for restarting the pipeline withofficials from Syria&rsquo;s Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources.</p><p>The pipeline,built in 1952, runs roughly 800 kilometers from the Kirkuk oil fields innorthern Iraq to the Syrian Mediterranean port of Baniyas, with a capacity of300,000 barrels per day.       <description><![CDATA[<?xml encoding="utf-8" ?><p><em>Shafaq News- Baghdad</em></p><p>The investigation into former OilMinistry Undersecretary Adnan al-Jumaili uncovered the involvement of severalIraqi lawmakers in exploiting state resources and benefiting from governmentcontracts, an Iraqi investigative judge said on Sunday.</p><p>In a statement, Diaa Jaafar ofIraq's Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption explained that the casebegan in October 2025 after the court received reports alleging that severalelection candidates had spent large sums on campaign activities using stateresources with the backing of influential figures in the previous government.</p><p>Months of evidence gatheringculminated in the exposure of lawmakers who, according to Jaafar, used publicresources for electoral campaigning and obtained commissions and personalbenefits, directly or through intermediaries, from government contracts.</p><p>The court subsequently requested thelifting of parliamentary immunity for the accused lawmakers, which Parliament'sspeaker approved under the applicable legal authorities. In coordination withthe Federal Integrity Commission and law enforcement agencies, arrest warrantswere executed, several suspects were detained, and funds and evidence linked tothe case were seized, while others remain at large.</p><p>The investigation is continuing, andlegal measures will be taken against additional political figures and otherindividuals. </p><p>Earlier today, Iraqi security forcesdetained 47 officials, lawmakers, and businessmen across Baghdad and severalprovinces in one of the country's largest anti-corruption operations in years,according to security and judicial sources.       <description><![CDATA[<?xml encoding="utf-8" ?><p><em>Shafaq News- Baghdad</em></p><p>Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone remained closed on Sunday as Iraqi authorities tightened security during a widening anti-corruption operation targeting senior politicians, lawmakers, and officials, a senior source told Shafaq News.</p><p>Access to the <a href="https://shafaq.com/en/Security/Iraq-closes-Green-Zone-as-corruption-arrests-target-lawmakers" target="_blank">Green Zone</a> was restricted to holders of official security passes, while all vehicles entering and leaving the area were subject to enhanced inspections.</p><p>Authorities have also issued travel bans against several suspects pending the completion of ongoing investigations, the source added, dismissing reports that Baghdad International Airport had been closed.</p><p>Earlier today, Iraq's state news agency (INA) reported that 47 <a href="https://shafaq.com/en/Iraq/Iraq-names-45-suspects-in-anti-corruption-crackdown" target="_blank">suspects</a>, including lawmakers and senior officials, had been detained in what has become the country's largest anti-corruption campaign in years.
