Shafaq News- Beirut

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday criticized the US-brokered framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, warning it could “deepen internal divisions” and drag Lebanese factions into confrontation.

Speaking to Lebanon's Al-Akhbar newspaper, Berri said the agreement "will not pass and will not be implemented." He argued that ongoing US-Iran negotiations offered the only realistic path to securing an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, warning that separating the Lebanese file from the broader US-Iran diplomatic track would only “prolong Israel's military presence.”

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raji, for his part, stated that the government's priorities remain securing a full Israeli withdrawal, deploying the Lebanese army across the south, and completing the state's plan to place all weapons under its exclusive control.

On Friday, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered framework agreement providing for a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in exchange for the Lebanese army's deployment and the disarmament of armed groups, but Hezbollah, the Amal Movement, and other political factions rejected the deal as a threat to Lebanese sovereignty. Israeli officials have insisted no withdrawal will take place before Hezbollah disarms, while leaked details of a reported secret security annex suggest Israeli forces would retain operational freedom in southern Lebanon without a fixed withdrawal timetable. The Lebanese army is expected to begin deploying to the first two pilot zones under US supervision as implementation of the agreement gets underway.

Read more: South Lebanon framework: What we know so far

Shafaq News

The World Cup 2026 Round of 32 continues on Tuesday, June 30 Baghdad time, with Netherlands facing Morocco in Monterrey before Ivory Coast meet Norway in Arlington.

Netherlands play Morocco at 04:00 at Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe, Mexico, while Ivory Coast face Norway at 20:00 at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Both World Cup knockout matches are single-elimination ties, with the winners advancing to the Round of 16.

Netherlands vs Morocco

Netherlands and Morocco meet in one of the strongest World Cup Round of 32 fixtures, bringing together the Group F winners and the Group C runners-up. The winner will face Canada in the Round of 16 in Houston on July 4.

Netherlands reached the knockouts after topping Group F with seven points and 10 goals. Ronald Koeman’s side drew 2-2 with Japan, beat Sweden 5-1, then defeated Tunisia 3-1 to finish first. Koeman has warned that Morocco are a serious test despite the Dutch group-stage numbers. His side looked dangerous going forward but also showed vulnerability against Japan, who pressed high and attacked quickly in transition.

Netherlands carry deep World Cup pedigree into the tie. The three-time runners-up are unbeaten in six previous World Cup matches against African teams and have not lost a World Cup match in normal or extra time since the 2010 final against Spain.

Morocco finished second in Group C behind Brazil on goal difference, taking seven points from one of the tournament’s tougher groups. Walid Regragui’s side drew 1-1 with Brazil, beat Scotland 1-0, then defeated Haiti 4-2.

The Atlas Lions are seeking another deep knockout run after reaching the semifinals at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Their 2026 group campaign has again shown the core strengths of Regragui’s team: compact defending, quick transitions, and confidence against higher-ranked opponents.

Morocco and Netherlands first met at a World Cup in 1994, and the modern Moroccan squad includes players with Dutch roots or Dutch football development.

Ismael Saibari, linked closely to Dutch football through PSV Eindhoven, has been one of Morocco’s key attacking references.

Ivory Coast vs Norway

Ivory Coast face Norway at Dallas Stadium in a World Cup Round of 32 match between two runners-up with sharply different tournament stories.

The winner will advance to face either Brazil or Japan in the Round of 16.

Ivory Coast reached the World Cup knockouts for the first time after finishing second in Group E behind Germany. Emerse Fae’s side lost narrowly to Germany, beat Ecuador, then defeated Curacao 2-0 to secure progression.

The campaign has already marked a historic step for the Ivorians, who had never advanced beyond the group stage in previous World Cup appearances. Fae has pointed to squad unity and competition for places as central to the team’s progress.

Ivory Coast’s strength is physical balance. They have pace, power, and enough technical quality to play through pressure, while their bench has helped sustain intensity late in matches.

Meanwhile Norway finished second in Group I behind France, returning to the World Cup knockouts in their first tournament appearance for 28 years.

Erling Haaland has been Norway’s headline figure, scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Senegal that secured their Round of 32 place. Martin Odegaard remains the team’s main organiser, giving Stale Solbakken’s side a clear creative axis behind Haaland.

Norway’s final group match was a 4-1 loss to France, but Solbakken rested key players, including Haaland and Odegaard, after qualification had already been secured. He defended the decision by stressing readiness for the Ivory Coast tie.

Solbakken has described Ivory Coast as one of the most physical teams in the tournament and called the match a 50-50 tie.

Shafaq News- Daraa

Israeli forces attacked the village of Abideen in Syria's southern Daraa province and pushed ground troops across the frontier, damaging homes and farmland and forcing residents to flee to neighboring towns.

According to the Syrian state news agency (SANA), the raid came from al-Jazira, an Israeli military post just inside Syrian territory. As armored vehicles advanced, residents blocked the roads into Abideen with stones to keep them out; Israeli troops responded with gunfire and illumination flares over the Yarmouk basin before withdrawing. Hours earlier, soldiers had briefly occupied a nearby hill, pitching tents before abandoning the position. Israeli warplanes and helicopters continued to circle over Daraa and the neighboring Quneitra province through the day.

Syria's Foreign Ministry condemned the operation as a violation of the country's sovereignty and a breach of the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement of Forces, the UN-brokered truce that has separated Syrian and Israeli troops along the occupied Golan Heights since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. It warned that the repeated incursions risk wider escalation and called on the United Nations to enforce the agreement.

Israeli forces have steadily expanded their presence across southern Syria since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, moving into a buffer zone that had separated the two sides for half a century. SANA reported that Israeli troops have established nine forward positions inside Syrian territory, on Mount Hermon and in villages including al-Hamidiyah and al-Adnaniyah, and dug a fortified trench known as "Sofaa Line 53" along the old separation line, cutting farmers off from their land.

The ministry also pointed to earlier abuses in Quneitra, including the detention of 47 Syrians and the demolition of 16 homes in the village of al-Hamidiyah after residents were forced out.

Read more: Is normalization with Israel on the horizon?

Hezbollah said it is tracking and documenting the violations, calling them "a flagrant breach of the ceasefire Israel had committed to."

Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed 4,247 people and wounded 12,195 since March 2, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

On Friday, Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a framework agreement in Washington following a fifth round of negotiations. The deal sets out a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, beginning with two pilot zones —areas designated for initial deployment by the Lebanese army once armed groups disarm. Hezbollah, the Amal Movement, and other parliamentary blocs rejected the agreement as unbalanced and a threat to Lebanese sovereignty.

Israel raised its security alert level following the signing, bracing for a possible attack by Iran. The Israeli news site Walla, citing Israeli military sources, reported that the agreement had alarmed both Hezbollah and Tehran, in part because it provides for the group's disarmament, its removal from southern Lebanon, and the normalization of Lebanese-Israeli relations. According to those sources, Iran has signaled its displeasure by escalating tensions with the United States and raising the prospect of disrupting the Strait of Hormuz, while Israel says it is preparing for all scenarios, including a direct strike.

Israeli media published leaked portions of “a secret security annex” to the agreement, kept confidential at Lebanon's request. The Times of Israel, citing an informed official, reported the annex grants the Israeli military full freedom of movement within the security zone and confirms there will be no automatic withdrawal. Channel 12 reported that Israeli withdrawal is tied to field assessment rather than a fixed timetable, a condition it said the Lebanese government accepted. It also reported that expanding the pilot zones would require Israeli approval, with full deployment expected to take several weeks, and that the annex grants the Israeli military freedom of action within the security perimeter to act against what Israel considers emerging and direct threats.

An Israeli military source told Haaretz the Israeli army has not yet received orders to withdraw from any area in Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have stated that no Israeli withdrawal will occur unless Hezbollah disarms.

The Lebanese army, according to Channel 12, is expected to deploy in the coming hours to the first two pilot zones assigned by Israel in the towns of Zawtar al-Gharbiyah and Froun, under the direct supervision of the US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper, who is expected to arrive in Lebanon from Israel within hours. Froun is not currently occupied by Israel.

Read more: South Lebanon framework: What we know so far

📌 ميفدون pic.twitter.com/W4Tmr6SvFR
— Al Jadeed News (@ALJADEEDNEWS) June 28, 2026

Iranian state television, citing an unnamed official, relayed that Tehran will not take part in technical talks scheduled for next week, pointing to “recent attacks and unmet conditions” as key factors shaping its position. The Wall Street Journal similarly reported that the latest round of hostilities between the two sides contributed to a pause in engagement.

The New York Times, however, underlined that the planned talks have not been cancelled, arguing that indirect communication remains active through established channels.

The US and Iran exchanged blows on Sunday, extending fighting around Hormuz into a third day.
