Iran to continue closure of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, on Wednesday called on the armed forces to continue operations described as the Strait of Hormuz closure front.
In a statement, Khamenei said the Iranian people demand to maintain effective and sustained defense, adding that “studies have been conducted to open other fronts where the enemy lacks experience and would face significant risk.” He also noted that these steps could be activated if the state of war persists, “in line with national interests.”
The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital energy corridor, historically carrying about one-fifth of the world’s oil before the outbreak of war in Iran. The passage was closed to commercial vessels on March 2.
Citing maritime data, CBS reported that 71% of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday were either linked to Iran or part of its so-called “shadow fleet.” The data indicated that ships in Iran’s shadow fleet accounted for approximately 88% of total transits through the strait over the past week, underscoring the “growing role” of this fleet in regional maritime traffic.
