Iraqi government on Kurdistan’s Statement: committed to revisions

Shafaq News/ The Iraqi government responded, on Thursday, to the Kurdistan Regional Government's statement regarding the budget amendments, reaffirming its commitment to the revisions and calling on parliament to approve them.
Earlier on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Peshawa Hawramani, revealed that the federal government had submitted a new budget proposal to the Iraqi parliament without consulting the Kurdistan Government, replacing the agreed-upon draft budget between the two governments.
In response, the Spokesperson for the Iraqi government, Basim Al-Awadi, emphasized that "out of the government’s commitment to transparency and keeping citizens informed about its executive work, particularly regarding the budget, which is a key element in fulfilling the commitments outlined in the government program, we confirm the government’s adherence to the amendments submitted to the parliament concerning the budget law."
He further noted that this law takes into account the national interest and stressed that the government's representative in parliament had emphasized the necessity of not making any additional amendments to the budget law that contradict the provisions submitted by the Cabinet.
Al-Awadi denied the claims made in the statement by the spokesperson of the
Kurdistan Regional Government and expressed surprise at the allegation that the
federal government's representative in parliament had obstructed the amendment
concerning the procedures for resuming oil exports from the region.
He added, "We emphasize the importance of the Kurdistan Regional
Government’s commitment to the provisions of the Federal Budget Law, including
the transfer of financial revenues, both oil and non-oil, to the federal
government, as stipulated by law and the decision of the Federal Court."
Al-Awadi pointed out that adherence to these procedures is a crucial step in
resolving the issues related to this matter and strengthening cooperation
between the two sides.
The federal government expressed its hope that parliament would swiftly
approve the amendment in accordance with the text approved by the Cabinet,
"in the interest of Iraq, all of Iraq."
On Tuesday, January 21, Member of Parliament for the State of Law Coalition,
Firas Al-Muslimawi, revealed that the Iraqi parliament had received an amended
version of the draft budget law amendment from the Baghdad government.
