Iraq ranks 40th in the list of the world's largest gold reserves
Shafaq News/ Iraq maintained the 40th ranking in the list of the countries with largest gold reserves, the monthly report of the World Gold Council said.
The Council, in its latest (June) update to the list of largest Gold reserves for 2021, showed that Iraq is 40th on the list with 96.4 tons, equivalent to 8.8% of its other reserves.
US is still the top dog with 8.133 thousand tons, followed by Germany with 3.355 thousand tons. Moritania tailed with one ton, preceded by Salvador with 1.4 tons.
Top gold buyers were Turkey and Uzbekistan with 13 and 9 tons, respectively, followed by Kazakhstan, Qatar, and India with 6, 5, and 4 tons, respectively.
Germany was the only seller with two tons.
"Central banks reported adding a net 35 tons to global gold reserves," the Council said.
The World Gold Council is the market development organization for the gold industry. It works across all parts of the industry, from gold mining to investment, and their aim is to stimulate and sustain demand for gold.
