Iraq on Friday expanded food and shelter aid to families displaced by the Israeli war in Lebanon, providing rations, bedding, and supplies for communal kitchens.

The Trade Ministry said the aid is being delivered through a cabinet-ordered relief committee as part of Iraq’s “broader humanitarian support” for Lebanon.

Earlier, the office of Iraq's top Shiite cleric, Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani, in Lebanon also launched a humanitarian initiative to help cover medical costs for displaced and financially vulnerable families, including contributions toward hospital procedures for low-income patients.

About than one million people have been displaced in Lebanon since Israel launched its war in early March, according to the United Nations, which has appealed for $308.3 million to fund the response through May.

The Lebanese Health Ministry said 1,345 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since March 2, including at least 124 children.
