Syrian President to visit Turkiye on Tuesday

Shafaq News/ Newly appointed Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa will visit Turkiye on Tuesday, his second foreign trip after Saudi Arabia.
Turkiye's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said that the upcoming talks between Turkish and Syrian officials will cover the latest developments in Syria and the joint steps Ankara and Damascus will take toward economic recovery, sustainable stability, and security in the war-torn country.
In a statement on X, Altun said discussions would also focus on the support that could be provided to Syria’s new administration and the Syrian people through multilateral platforms.
"We believe that Turkiye-Syria relations, which have been reestablished after Syria’s liberation, will strengthen and deepen with the visit of Ahmed al-Sharaa and his delegation," he added.
In December 2024, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Ibrahim Kalin, head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), became the first senior Turkish officials to visit Damascus. Fidan emphasized that under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s leadership, Turkiye remains committed to supporting the Syrian people.
Syria’s
Military Operations Administration announced last week the appointment of Ahmed
al-Sharaa as transitional president, the repeal of the 2012 constitution, and
the dissolution of the previous regime’s parliament, army, and security
agencies.
