Beirut port explosion overthrows the Lebanese government
Shafaq News / The Lebanese Minister of Health, Hamad Hasan, announced on Monday that Hassan Diab's government decided to submit its resignation against the backdrop of Beirut explosion disaster.
In a statement to reporters after a cabinet session, Hasan added that the resignation came to assume responsibility for the Beirut bombing.
Diab is expected to announce the government's resignation later today, Monday.
Last Tuesday, a massive explosion blew the port of Beirut, leaving dozens dead and thousands injured, as well as dozens missing.
The devastating explosion also resulted in heavy material losses, as large parts of the city were destroyed and thousands of families were displaced.
Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab stated that 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate had been stored for more than 6 years in the warehouse, which is believed to be the cause of the Beirut port explosion, while a special committee continues to investigate the incident.
The explosion sparked widespread anger in the country and sparked violent protests against the government and the political system.
