Qatar supports Lebanon in all measures it takes and calls for Israeli forces to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory and hand it over to the Lebanese army, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on Friday.

Following a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace, Al Thani said Qatar would continue working toward comprehensive solutions to the country's energy crisis.

Aoun thanked Qatar for its support across various sectors, according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency. He also urged Doha to continue pressing Israel to halt its attacks in southern Lebanon and implement the framework agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel under US sponsorship.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that Qatar would finance, implement, and operate a project to rehabilitate and modernize Lebanon's electricity infrastructure, with no upfront investment costs for the Lebanese state treasury.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Al Thani, Salam said the two governments were close to reaching an agreement on the project, which would cover electricity generation and the supporting infrastructure. “The initiative aimed to deliver electricity more quickly and reliably, at a lower cost.”

Salam explained that the project would follow a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, under which an entity finances, builds, and operates infrastructure before transferring it to the relevant authority.

Lebanon has faced a prolonged electricity crisis, with state-run power plants failing for decades to meet demand. Energy-related debt accounts for a substantial share of the country's public debt, according to Lebanese official figures. Private generators have consequently become a major source of electricity for households and businesses across Lebanon. Consumers often pay high rates for the service, with costs rising further when global oil prices increase.
