China provides Kurdistan Region with a new set of equipment to combat Corona

Shafaq News / The Minister of Health of Kurdistan Region, Saman Al-Barzanji announced on Sunday that the People's Republic of China will provide the region with new medical equipment, as part of curbing the outbreak of Corona virus.

"The region is in the stage of controlling the virus," Barzanji said at a joint press conference held with the Chinese consul general in the region, explaining that this stage means reducing the number of people infected with the virus and limiting its spread.

The minister praised China for fighting and eliminating the virus, saying "China is one of the first countries to provide medical assistance to the region and we thank them for that."

"China has provided us with a new set of medical masks, which will be distributed to the region's hospitals," he added.

Regarding the extension of the lockdown in the region, the minister said, "The experience of the curfew and the quarantine of people coming from outside the region was of great importance, so if the curfew wouldn’t take place, the number of people infected with the virus would be in thousands."

Al-Barzanji added by saying that "all the cases that were recorded in the region came from abroad and neighboring countries because this virus was not present in the region."
