Three journalists killed in Turkish drone strike in Kurdistan Region, Press organizations condemn

Shafaq News/ Press organizations in Al-Sulaymaniyah condemned the Turkish drone strike that killed three journalists on Friday, calling for measures to prevent similar attacks in the future.

Karwan Anwar, head of the Kurdistan Journalists' Office in Al-Sulaymaniyah, criticized the targeting of media personnel, stating to Shafaq News Agency, "Journalists must be kept out of all internal and external political conflicts. What happened today is a blatant violation against the journalistic community."

Anwar pointed out that international agreements prohibit involving journalists in political or social disputes, underscoring their role in reporting the truth.

"The Journalists' Syndicate and Metro Center for the Defense of Journalists' Rights are set to issue strong condemnation statements against the attack." He added.

Rahman Gharib, head of Metro Center, reported that "Turkish forces have advanced about 50 kilometers into the Kurdistan Region, with drones targeting both civilians and journalists."

According to exclusive information obtained by Shafaq News Agency, the Turkish drone targeted a vehicle that was transporting two female journalists on the road between the Sheikhan and Halabja districts on their way to film a TV program.

The deceased journalists have been identified as Hero Bahaddin, 29, from the Kurdistan Region, and Klestan Tara, from Northern Kurdistan. Another journalist who was with them sustained minor injuries and is being treated at a hospital in Sheikhan.

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the forensic medicine department for further investigation.
