President Barzani hails religious freedom in Akitu greeting

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday marked the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year and the “Akitu” festival, expressing hope the occasion would strengthen coexistence and a sense of security across the region despite ongoing war conditions.

Barzani congratulated Chaldeans, Assyrians, and Syriacs in the Kurdistan Region, wishing them a safe and joyful holiday. He described Akitu as a celebration rooted in the deep historical and cultural legacy of one of the country’s oldest communities, framing it as a moment to reaffirm commitment to equality, rights, and freedoms.
