President Barzani with EU, Arab League officials: Regional developments on the table
Shafaq News/ On Saturday, Kurdish President Nechirvan Barzani met Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and EU Special Representative for the Gulf, Luigi Di Maio, in Turkiye, the Kurdistan Presidency stated.
In his meeting with Aboul Gheit on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF 2025), Barzani discussed political developments in Iraq and regional cooperation. The two reviewed ties between the Kurdistan Region, Baghdad, and the Arab League, emphasizing the importance of dialogue to maintain stability.
The president voiced support for the League’s role in “fostering cooperation” among member states, while Aboul Gheit praised the Kurdistan Region’s contribution to peace in Iraq and the wider region.

Separately, Barzani and Di Maio discussed strengthening ties between the Region and the European Union, while also exchanging views on recent regional and international developments and their impact on Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the Gulf.
Both sides highlighted the need for “continued dialogue to support regional stability.”

Barzani arrived in Turkiye on Friday, where he also held meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Syrian transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa during the forum.
