Duhok mine agency clears 43 artillery shells from village

Duhok’s General Directorate of Mine Affairs on Monday recovered 43 100mm artillery shells from the Mangesh district of the province and transferred them to a disposal site.
Riker Bisfki, the directorate’s media officer, said a report about several explosive remnants in the Basi village prompted a mine and explosives clearance team to immediately deploy to the site.
On August 4, a worker suffered minor injuries after unexploded ordnance dating back to the 1980s detonated at a quarry in Duhok, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
According to official figures, authorities in Duhok destroyed more than 608 landmines and explosive remnants of war collected across the province since the start of 2026.
