Drone attack targets hotel in Kurdistan’s Erbil
Shafaq News- Erbil
A drone struck the Arjaan Rotana hotel in central Erbil on Friday, security sources told Shafaq News, hours after the US Embassy warned that Iran-aligned groups could target hotels frequented by foreigners in the Kurdistan Region.
Initial information indicates the drone hit the hotel on 100-meter Street in the Kurdish capital. There were no immediate reports of casualties or the extent of damage.
The strike came about an hour after the US Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert advising American citizens in the Kurdistan Region that hotels hosting foreign nationals could become targets.
“Iran-aligned militias may seek to target hotels frequented by foreigners in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq,” the embassy said, urging US citizens to leave Iraq as soon as it is safe and to reconsider accommodation arrangements if they remain.
The embassy added that commercial flights are currently unavailable from Iraq, but land routes to Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye remain open, though they could close without notice.

The attack follows Iranian state media reports earlier Friday that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ground forces launched missile strikes against sites inside the Kurdistan Region. Those strikes came a day after a wave of drone attacks hit areas across Erbil, al-Sulaymaniyah and Duhok, targeting locations including an oil field and headquarters linked to the Komala Iranian Kurdish opposition party.
The Kurdistan Region has faced repeated missile and drone attacks in recent days, including strikes on Harir air base and Erbil International Airport, as tensions escalate in the wider confrontation between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other.
