Security fails to control Baghdad's Tahrir Square, despite the intensity of tear gas grenades

Shafaq News/ Dozens of demonstrators were wounded early Wednesday by "heavy" use of tear gas by security forces in an attempt to break up protests in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad.

Security forces heavily fired tear gas grenades at Tahrir Square in central Baghdad through river boats as well as from the ground across Jumhuriya Bridge.

Dozens of people suffered from suffocation and injuries due to gases, as paramedics from the ranks of the demonstrators took the so-called locally "Tuk-Tuk" to take them to hospitals for treatment.

Media sources and protesters said that security forces tried to break up the protests in the square but failed and protesters still control the "Turkish restaurant" and part of the republic's bridge to the fortified Green Zone.

In Shatrah town in Dhi Qar province, at least 51 demonstrators were injured by live bullets and tear gas.

While the house of a leader in the Al-Sadr Brigades of Al-Sadr movement was exposed to an explosion that caused material damage, in conjunction with the protesters attempting to attack the house of the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers ,Hamid Al-Ghazi in Dhi Qar province.

Local sources told Shafaq News that the house of the commander of the Peace Brigades in Souq al-Sheyoq  " al-Sayed Sadiq" was subjected to an explosion by a home-made bomb, causing only material damage.

At the same time, more than 20 people suffocated after security forces broke up a protest and attempted an attack by protesters on the home of the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers ,Hamid al-Ghazzi in al-Shatri city.

Ghazi belongs to the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr.
