Shafaq News / The High Commissioner for Human Rights announced on Saturday, that it is putting pressure on the government to reduce the assassinations and kidnappings of activists.

"At an official invitation from the British embassy in Iraq, the head of the commission, Aqeel al-Musawi accompanied by a delegation from the Board of Commissioners, discussed the developments of the humanitarian situation in Iraq in light of the continuing demonstrations," the commission said in a statement to Shafaq News.

Al-Musawi said during the meeting that "the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Iraq exercised its humanitarian role in monitoring the demonstrations in a neutral manner, despite all the challenges it faced."

He added that "the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Iraq is still exerting pressure on the government to take effective measures that reduce the murders and kidnappings of activists," noting that it "relies heavily on the Iraqi judiciary to prosecute the perpetrators and to impose a just punishment against them."
