Barzani vows to Kawa Garmiyani’s family to punish the killers

A statement for the presidency of the region reported for " Shafaq News " , that “ Barzani received , (yesterday ) Monday in Salahaddin resort in Erbil , the family of the killed journalist Kawa Garmiyani and his parents .

The statement said that Garmiyani’s family recounted details of the progress of the investigations with the defendants, and asked Barzani to help them to find the perpetrators and punish the people who were behind this crime .

For his part, Barzani pointed out that Garmiyani was an innocent person and a good son of a sacrificing and national family and his assassination is a big and brutal crime.

Barzani wished that trial of the accused would result in positive outcome that reveal those involved "in order to heal part of the wounds of the martyr’s family.”

Barzani called Garmiyani ‘s family not to despair and be assure that the accused will receive a penalty for their actions renewing his full support to the demands of his family .

Gunmen had assassinated last December, the journalist Kawa Garmiyani in Kalar city.

A security source revealed that the gunmen were traveling in a car Type Land Cruiser opened fire on the journalist Kawa with seven shots , one of them in the head as he died on the spot and the attackers fled to an unknown location.

Journalist Kawa Garmiyani was born in 1982 , married and work as chief editor of ( Rayel ) magazine, he also worked as a reporter in ( Awena ) Kurdish newspaper and worked in several newspapers .

Garmiyani’s family accused leaders in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party ; Mahmoud Sankawi and Adnan Hama as well as the security services and those officials in Kalar , but the court acquitted the leaders for the lack of evidence against them , prompting Garmiyani’s family , many of the journalists and civic activists to organize protests and sit-ins in front of the courthouse .

Following that Garmiyan Criminal Court announced issuing a decision to re- arrest the leader in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan , Mahmoud Sankawi   after an appeal in the case of killing of the journalist with the court .

The lawyer Kawa Lateef said in an interview earlier with " Shafaq News " , that “ after the defense appealed to Garmiyan Criminal Court in 29 of last January on the decision to release the defendants , Hama Ali known as Mahmoud Sankawi   and the employee in Klar Department of Electricity Zakho Ahmed , the Court decided after review and investigation to cancel the releasing decision of the defendants and arrested them under Article 2 of the anti-terrorism law.

Lateef added that according to the decision of Garmiyan Criminal Court , it has been approved to release the member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Adnan Hama and other defendants .
