Al-Halbousi: The electoral law includes 50% individual lists and 50% electoral lists
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Parliament Speaker, Mohammad al-Halbousi announced details of the new election law, which lawmakers are working on.
Halbousi said in a statement to a number of media within the Parliament, that the agenda today includes the elections of the parliament and the Electoral Commission’s law and we believe that these laws will draw a road map for a more reliable political scene for the Iraqi people and restore confidence between the people and the political process clearly and explicitly.
He added that "the law is currently submitted to the elections of the parliament as includes 50% individual lists and other 50% electoral lists with privacy for some provinces, especially those that have been under the occupation of ISIS terrorist and the non return of displaced people, but personally I support that the election would be individual for all the Iraqi people and that the percentage of 100% is for individual candidates as we take into account the peculiarity in some provinces. "
He also said, " we talked with the coalition of Iraqi forces and they have some demands about the displaced people, which is a demand for all the Iraqi people, but the current situation in the country is an issue and the interest of a country does not represent the goal of a component or stand for the interest of a sect, a party or a person therefore, the interest of the country and the citizens will be the priority of the coalition of Iraqi and political forces. "
Halbousi talked about the 45-day deadline granted by the political blocs to the prime minister to implement the demands of the demonstrators, "we don’t govern ourselves with timings that may be less than that, but some laws need a broad vision to satisfy the discussions and take the views of specialists to be a date sooner or less than the specified time."
On the reduction of the number of members of the parliament, Halbousi said, "The ruler is the Constitution and this is evident in the paragraph that talks about the representation of each winner by 100,000 people and the opinion of political forces in the Constitutional Amendments Committee while reducing the number of members of the parliament through constitutional and legal procedures."
