US-Coalition convoys are targeted in northern Iraq
Shafaq News / The Security Media Cell reported that an explosive device had exploded on Friday on a convoy of trucks carrying equipment for the US-coalition in northern Iraq.
The cell said in a statement received by Shafaq News agency, "convoy transporting equipment for the international coalition -which had withdrawn from Iraq- was targeted with to an explosive device in Al-Ishaqi district within the Samarra operations sector."
It added that the attack resulted in one injury which is a fighter in the third regiment, the Samarra Commando Brigade."
It is noteworthy that the transfer of US-coalition equipment is carried out by Iraqi transport companies and Iraqi drivers.
This is the latest attacks that have been repeated daily recently targeting US-Coalition convoys.
These attacks are in addition to others by Katyusha rockets targeting the US embassy and Iraqi military bases hosting diplomats, US-Coalition forces since last year.
No party has yet claimed responsibility for these attacks, but Washington accuses Pro-Iranian Iraqi armed factions.
Armed Shiite factions, including the Iraqi Kata’ib Hezbollah had threatened to target the locations of US forces in Iraq, if they did not withdraw in compliance with the Iraqi parliament’s decision to end the military presence in the country.
On January 5, the Iraqi parliament voted by majority to end the foreign military presence on the country's territory, following the killing of the Iranian Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, accompanied by the deputy head of Al-Hashd, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, in an American bombing near Baghdad Airport .
