Saairun announces its position of the election law
Shafaq News / Salam al-Shammari, a member of "Saairun" coalition supported by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced on Wednesday his coalition's support for the multiple districts in the election law, considering it "the demand of the protesters and the Iraqi people.
Al-Shammari said in a press statement that "Saairun will not obstruct the legislation of the election law according to the various departments and the adoption of the barometer card to ensure its integrity.""
Al-Shammari clarified that "until now, some blocs want elections on the basis of a single district and on the unjust Saint Lego law, but the new law has been agreed upon, except for paragraph 15, which will soon be held, stressing that the multiple districts are the demand of the October (Tishreen) demonstrators and the people.
Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi announced, on Tuesday, that next Saturday’s session will be help to completing the vote on the election law.
The new draft election law is the biggest problem facing early elections that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi called for on the sixth of next June.
The Iraqi parliament had begun late last year to discuss the legislation of the new law due to popular protests, as it is expected that it would allow to independents and small blocs to win parliament seats.
