Shafaq News / The Constitutional Amendments Committee announced that it is difficult to make any amendment to the Iraqi constitution at present.

A member of the committee, deputy Yonadam Kanna, told Shafaq news agency that “The Constitutional Amendments Committee does not have the right to make any decision. It makes propositions to the parliament, which decides whether to accept or reject it. The committee did not meet for more than 7 months due to the Corona virus, and other reasons".

"Constitutional amendment must be voted for in the Iraqi parliament, then, the authorities must organize a referendum, and the amendment must be accepted in three governorates at least. Besides, it is very difficult to make any amendment before the ealry elections".

A member of The Committee of Experts in amending the constitution, Adel Al-Lami, said in a statement for National Iraqi News Agency, "The Committee completed its work; it wrote all the amendments and prepared a report in presence of experts in law, international law, constitutional law, the United Nations, and representatives of the protestors".

Al-Lami explained that "the most important change made about the election is allocating the winning parliamentary bloc to formulate the government, nominate its ministers, and prepare its governmental program, unlike the former situation in which all the bloc participates in those missions. The former situation is the reason behind quota system, and detaining previous governments formulation”.
