Shafaq News / Displaced women in Sheikhan camp are resorting to poultry farming as a source of food and income, as twenty displaced families living in the camp depend on the poultry farming project established by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), as a part of its program funded by the Japanese government, in an initiative that aims to enhance economic empowerment and entrepreneurship.

The program provides each family participating in the project with laying hens, feed, cages, in addition to the necessary training.

Accordingly, 400 chickens, 20 cages and five and a half tons of feed were distributed.

Families can sell the surplus (as each hen can lay an average of 300 eggs each year) in local markets, or exchange it for what they need, which reduces their dependence on emergency aid and enhances food security for the beneficiary families.
