Shafaq News / The Governor of Basra, Asaad Abdul Amir Al-Eidani, confirmed on Monday his endeavor to make Al-Faw a global hub city by completing the large port project.

Al-Eidani said in a statement issued after a series of official meetings he had with federal government officials in Baghdad, that there is nothing related to the railway connection with Kuwait.

The Governor of Basra added that the Iraqi President of the Republic, Barham Salih, and the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, support the completion of the project of the Grand Al-Faw Port and the highway between Al-Faw Port and the other governorates, as well as allocating part of the budget to complete the project, calling on, "Basra people not to believe the media statements, especially regarding the issue of the railway connection, "stressing that, "no railway connection will be completed until after the completion of the Al-Faw Grand Port project and the rail link to the port".

General Company for Iraqi Railways announced, earlier, that the rail link with Iran and Kuwait is not proposed at present.

The rail link project with Iran includes the extension of a 32.5 km railway that starts from the city of Basra and ends near Al-Shalamjah border crossing to be used for traveling and transporting goods, while Kuwait is seeking to implement a similar project in Basra to transport goods from and to Iraq.
