30% below last year, Khanaqin concludes wheat harvest season
Shafaq News/ Khanaqin concluded the wheat harvest season, with a production rate 30% below last year, according to the district's Directorate of Agriculture.
The head of the Directorate, Kamran Abdallah, said in a statement to Shafaq News Agency that the current season's wheat crop weighed 40,000 tons, down by 30% compared to last year (60,000 tons).
Abdallah attributed this drop to the inadequate marketing of the companies in Kurdistan and southern governorates, the delayed opening of Silo Kalar which prompted selling the crop to Tuz Khurmatu, in addition to low rainfall and poor rain-fed Agriculture.
The Directorate set 90 thousand dunums for the winter plan for wheat agriculture.
